What does acupuncture involve?
- Examining the general condition of the body, and diagnosing in Traditional Chinese Medicine.
- Using sterilized and disposable needles, following the Clean Needle Technique to treat various diseases and conditions.
Is Acupuncture safe?
Yes. The sterile, disposable needles and the "Clean Needle Technique" used at our clinic are of the highest quality. The areas on your body used in treatment will be cleaned in advance with alcohol swabs (isopropyl alcohol, 70% v/v). You may experience some normal sensations with acupuncture: the insertion (which may feel like a mosquito bite) and the arrival of energy at the tip of the needle (which may feel warm, tight, distending, sore or tingling).
Is Acupuncture right for you?
Typically people use acupuncture as a supplementary therapy to enhance the health care they are already receiving. Some try it out because standard therapies haven’t been affective. Acupuncture can provide a more natural way to regain control of your health. We can promise you exceptional treatment for a competitive price.
What will my first session be like?
After filling out the necessary paper work so that Dr. Yu has a better grasp of your health history, you will be asked a few questions she may have for you, as well as asked what you would like to get out of the sessions. Each acupuncture treatment is personalized to work on the issues you would like to address. Dr. Yu also offers advice on what other parts of the body need attention as well.
More and more people are seeking help from acupuncture for its wealth of benefits.

How long does a treatment last?
Each treatment lasts one hour. Dr. Yu provides individualized attention and likes to take her time on each of her patients. This constant care heightens the quality of her work.
How many treatments will it take?
The number of treatments that you will need will vary according to your condition. One or two treatments may be sufficient for some acute conditions. Chronic problems usually require a longer treatment period with results not evident until after a few treatments.
Acupuncture treatments build a cumulative effect with time, so you will be able to increase the duration of time between visits as the results build.
How long will the results last?
This varies from person to person. Initially the results are short-lived and subtle. Subsequent treatments should provide longer-lasting and greater gains.
How much does it cost?
Initial evaluations are $75, and each session after the first are $60. If pre-paying is of interest to you, Dr. Yu offers a package (after the initial eval) that is $250 for five treatments, so $50 a visit. We offer quality treatment at a price that is significantly lower than many private acupuncture practices. We are confident that you won’t be disappointed with your experience.
Will my insurance cover this?
Most insurance companies do not cover acupuncture, but we have come across a plan here and there that does. It will be a specific benefit unique to your plan—the only way to know is to call your insurance and ask, but know that for the most part, insurances don’t seem to cover it.
As seen in the Jewish Chronicle and Greenfield Grapevine:
NEW PRACTITIONER IN TOWN
Lying down on the table for my first-ever acupuncture treatment, I was not necessarily doing my best. Needles being stuck in me? No thanks! However, I was shocked to find that I barely noticed the needle being put in! Instantly, I felt foolish for being so afraid of this little woman and her artillery of equally tiny needles. The woman who worked on me goes by the name of Dr. Yu, a new addition at Squirrel Hill Physical Therapy Center in Greenfield. After working on multiple sites with her needles, she ended with a relaxing massage.
Acupuncture examines the general condition of our bodies, using traditional Chinese medicine in the form of sterilized, disposable needles to treat many diseases and conditions. The needles all follow the ‘Clean Needles Technique,’ involving disinfecting the body parts to be treated, as well as using needles that are sterile and vacuum-sealed. You may feel some brief tingling while acupuncture is being performed, but other than that, it has no other discernable negative feeling.
Acupuncture can treat migraines, stress, depression, anxiety, fatigue, sleep and digestion problems, hypertension, asthma, muscle and joint pain, arthritis, urinary incontinence, menopause, PMS, infertility, weight loss or gain, and help with your ability to stop smoking. It has enhanced patient treatment and recovery at our clinic.
We welcome Doctor Zhisheng Yu, who received her M.D and O.M.D in Beijing China. A certified and licensed acupuncturist by the NCCAOM and the PA Medical Board, Dr. Yu has over ten years of acupuncture experience. She offers high quality, one-on-one patient care, and has received a lot of praise from our patients here at Squirrel Hill Physical Therapy.
If you have an illness that you think some relaxation and acupuncture could help treat, call us at 412-422-7022 and schedule an appointment with the new member of our team, Dr. Yu. She is a charismatic and gentle, lovely person. We are confident that you will love her as much as we do.

My Proud Testimony:
Last year I was placed on the National Organization of Transplant’s List. My doctors told me I was in desperate need of lungs. My lungs are being attacked by both Scleroderma and Sjogrens Disease, causing me to have Severe Pulmonary Hypertension, thus the need for lungs.
Cynthia Stein (my physical therapist of many years), recommended that I try acupuncture. I have had six acupuncture treatments with Dr. Yu and am happy to report that my breathing capacity has stabilized enough that I have been temporarily taken off the transplant list.
My doctors did not have an opinion on acupuncture. None of them have ever had, nor knew anyone who had had acupuncture, but they all believed and agreed that the treatments wouldn’t harm me in any way. They also had no scientific explanation as to why my condition had become stabilized.
Dr. Yu is a very caring individual. She takes the time needed to help each patient. Speaking for myself, I believe Dr. Yu CAN and WILL be able to help many feel better with whatever their medical issue may be. I am a believer!
Respectfully,
Linda Selig
